Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities stated on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on Monday, a horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of two of his close associates.
Joshua had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, representatives had said on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on social media that Joshua was declared medically stable to “recuperate at home”.
“Joshua and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation,” Omotosho said.
The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. It was also noted that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the passing of his two dear friends.”
His release from the hospital comes as the sports world had expressed condolences for the fighter in the aftermath of the devastating accident.
