Spoiler alert - This article discloses details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Over the course of the show, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
However on the final evening, the final winner of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a surprising outcome that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Online platforms quickly erupted with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," commented a viewer.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated another, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, will receive all the prize money, with the final pot reaching £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, as noted by industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt about as likely as him keeping a straight face through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants summed up why no one had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"Most people didn't target him because how does one vote for a person so loveable?" questioned a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would be successful a second time!"
Thursday evening's episode was extended to 70 minutes on television. It had an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the morning gathering.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as the episode revisited some moments from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed close allies to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I thought."
At the same time, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with a national team", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, various contestants appeared to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing an earlier departed fashionable contestant.
The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Next up was the competition, with the remaining contestants getting on board a locomotive called - of course - The Traitors Express.
The challenge saw them ripping up images of eliminated players. Have sympathy for a player who was hit on the head THREE times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise in advance, vowing to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," said a player, while the other just giggled.
And one did stick to his promise. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want that player to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The final four stood over the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be betrayed at the final moment in that manner," said the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the competition. So did a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.
For observers, the moment where the other players comforted the champion was "compelling television". "I anticipate it could be in the running for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they commented.
Happily, the winner quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand a winner," the winner said.
He also made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the final scene and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
